Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to attend the 8th International Conference on Social Representations, which will take place in Rome Italy, August 28th - September 1st 2006.

The conference theme will be:

Social Representations: Media and Society.

On the basis of previous conferences (1992: Ravello, Italy; 1994: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; 1996: Aix-en-Provence, France; 1998: Mexico City, Mexico; 2000: Montreal, Canada; 2002: Stirling, U.K.; 2004: Guadalajara, Mexico) we expect the participation of several hundreds of active contributors engaged in Symposia, Thematic Groups of Discussion, Round Tables, Interactive Poster Sessions, Free Contributions – as well as the Magisterial Conferences of invited Keynote speakers among the leading scientists in the field.

These Bi-annual International Conferences attract not only speakers and participants from social psychology but from the various disciplines in which the Social Representations theory has progressively become a unifying meta-theory of social psychology. These include human and social sciences such as sociology, anthropology, communication studies, etc., within which the theoretical and empirical research on social representations has developed together with strong applications.

The conference will be honoured by the participation of the founder of the Social Representations theory: Serge Moscovici (Prix Balzan for Social Sciences in 2003, awarded by various laurea ad honorem from Universities all over the world, including that from La Sapienza in 1999).

The conference in itself represents a scientific event of the planned activities of the So.Re.Com. THEmatic NETwork. It will be not only an occasion of encounter of the various partners in the projects, but also an opportunity for presenting and disseminating in the wider scientific community the multimedia scientific products (such as the transformation of the web site of the European Ph.D. into a Portal for the entire scientific domain) realised in the first and half year of the programme.

In addition, the 8th International Conference will be fully integrated and followed by the 12th International Summer School on Social Representations and Communication (VI European PhD on Social Representations and Communication International Lab Meetings) (28th August – 6th September) reserved to a restricted number of selected doctoral trainees and experienced researchers.

We look forward to seeing you at the Conference
